Barbados

Location:
Barbados is an island nation located at 13' North of the Equator and 59' West of the Prime Meridian. Barbados is the easternmost Caribbean island and are approximately 270 miles northeast of Venezuela.

Size:
Barbados is 166sq miles, or 21 miles long and 14 miles wide. Barbados is relatively flat, rising to a central highland in the center of the island - our highest point is Mount Hillaby which is 1084 feet above sea level. You could easily drive around Barbados in less than 3 hours. To give you an idea of just how small Barbados is - we could fit into Jamaica 30 times and into the United States 37,000 times.

Climate:
Barbados has a tropical climate that is mostly sunny and fair, with average daytime temperatures of 75-85' Fahrenheit. There are two seasons in Barbados - the rainy season, which runs from June - November, and the dry season, which runs from December to May. Barbados has an average annual rainfall of 56 inches.

Population:
Barbados is estimated to have a population of 279,912. Now that might not sound like a lot of people to you, but Barbados is actually the 8th most densely populated country in the world. The official language in Barbados is English, and the island boasts a literacy rate of 99.7%.
